Kristine Lawless is a family law attorney who helps individuals and families resolve divorces and related issues, such as child custody, child support, residency, and parenting time.

Kristine began her legal career in Wichita, where she worked as a paralegal for founding member, Stephen Joseph. She went on to earn her law degree from Washburn Law in 1991 and stayed in Topeka building a reputation as a formidable criminal defense attorney. When the firm opened its Topeka office, Stephen Joseph asked Kristine to come aboard. She has been with the firm ever since.

Kristine quickly became the Topeka office’s go-to lawyer for family law matters. Known for making requests too reasonable to deny, Kristine’s level-headed approach resulted in her appointment to serve as a pro tem judge. Eventually, Kristine’s colleagues in the domestic bar insisted she should use her talents to assist parties as an alternative dispute resolution provider.

Now, the majority of Kristine’s practice is devoted to that third-party neutral role. Whether the parties request her assistance or the court appoints her to a case, Kristine helps separating couples—especially parents—achieve better communication and find common ground. Kristine is certified by the Kansas Supreme Court to perform mediation in domestic cases, and she is also an approved conciliator and case manager for the Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Judicial Districts of Kansas.

Kristine is a member of the Kansas Bar Association, Topeka Bar Association, Topeka Lawyers Club, Women Attorneys Association of Topeka, and Heartland Mediators Association.
