Julia A. Craft Honored Among Nation’s Top 40 Family Law Attorneys in Inaugural Edition of The National Law Journal’s Divorce, Trusts & Estates Trailblazers
The National Law Journal’s inaugural issue of Divorce, Trusts & Estates Trailblazers has recognized Julia A. Craft, of Joseph, Hollander & Craft LLC, as one of the top 40 family law attorneys in the country for her outstanding career and contributions to the field.
Craft, a former Sedgwick County Assistant District Attorney, was particularly lauded for starting her private practice by aiding many law enforcement officials with divorce and family law matters. Law enforcement officers bring different considerations to family law cases, since they are held to a different and higher standard, and allegations in a divorce or custody dispute can impact the officer’s professional career, she says.
“I’m honored to be recognized as a trailblazer,” said Craft, who chairs Joseph, Hollander & Craft’s family law division. “Clients facing divorce or custody issues are often encountering the most stressful period of their lives. It’s gratifying to be able to ease their burden by helping them navigate the court system.”
Craft is particularly proud of how family law has evolved nationally with respect the rights of same-sex couples.
“We often had to be inventive in how we represented same-sex couples in the past,” Craft said. “But the law has changed. The number of same-sex couples in Kansas grew by more than 60 percent in 2014, the same year same-sex marriage was legalized in the state. It’s gratifying that equal protection is now a right for these couples and families, as well.”
Craft’s law practice includes divorce, child custody, child support, parenting time, spousal maintenance, premarital agreements, separation agreements, guardianships, child-in-need-of-care proceedings, and juvenile offenders. She worked as an Assistant District Attorney in the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office from 1982 – 1989 before entering private practice. She joined the firm in 2011 and became a named member of Joseph, Hollander & Craft in 2012.
Joseph, Hollander & Craft has 18 lawyers and offices in Wichita, Topeka, Lawrence, Overland Park & Kansas City, KS. The firm’s primary practice areas include civil litigation, commercial law, complex criminal defense, DUI defense, employment law, family law, and professional disciplinary defense. The firm’s attorneys represent clients in municipal, state, federal and appellate courts and before administrative panels.
