Since 1984, the nation has celebrated the contributions of social workers during National Social Work Month, which is March. Nationwide there are 650,000 social workers who are advocates, champions, and leaders in our society. While there are regulatory agencies such as the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board that help protect the profession’s reputation and ensure quality social work services, it should not be taken for granted. National Social Work Month is a time to recognize the dedication and sacrifices social workers make each and every day in their diverse practice settings. Historically, each year there is a promoted theme to improve public perceptions and education about the profession. This year, the theme is: “Social Workers: Leaders. Advocates. Champions.”
