Anne M. Kindling devotes her legal practice to health and hospital law, administrative and regulatory defense, and general civil litigation. Ms. Kindling counsels organizational and individual health care providers in connection with all aspects of health and hospital law, including regulatory compliance, business transactions, medical staff relations, peer review and risk management, professional licensure, and defense of medical malpractice claims throughout Kansas. Her civil litigation practice includes insurance defense, business disputes, and appellate advocacy. Ms. Kindling also prepares health care directives.
Mrs. Kindeling was selected for the Order of Barristers, a national honorary organization recognizing excellence in oral advocacy and brief-writing skills. She earned her bachelor’s degree in crime and delinquency studies in 1988 from the University of Kansas. Ms. Kindling is admitted to the state and federal courts in Kansas and holds the designation of Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management.
Ms. Kindling received her juris doctorate cum laude from the Indiana University School of Law in 1993.
Ms. Kindling’s professional career began with an appointment by Kansas Supreme Court Justice Bob Abbott as his research attorney; she later served as Justice Tyler C. Lockett’s research attorney. She entered private practice in 1996 with the Topeka law firm of Goodell Stratton Edmonds & Palmer LLP. As an associate and later as a partner at Goodell Stratton, Ms. Kindling regularly represented health care providers throughout Kansas in defense of medical malpractice claims as well as regulatory, peer review, and other health law areas. In 2007, Ms. Kindling left private practice to work in Risk Management at Stormont-Vail HealthCare, Inc. During her tenure with Stormont Vail, Ms. Kindling oversaw medical malpractice insurance and claims for the organization and its employed health care providers and managed health care risk and compliance responsibilities. She brought her vast experience back to private practice with Joseph, Hollander & Craft LLC in 2018.
Ms. Kindling is a member of and has held positions in several professional associations, including the Kansas Association of Defense Counsel (President, 2008); Kansas Association of Hospital Attorneys (President, 2006); Kansas Association of Risk and Quality Management (Board Member and former President Elect, 2018); Kansas Bar Association; Topeka Bar Association (Treasurer, 2000-2002; Board Member 2008-2009); and Sam A. Crow American Inn of Court. She was appointed to serve on the Kansas Judicial Council Child Death Review Board Advisory Committee in 2013 and has served on merit selection panels for the appointment of federal magistrate judges. From 2005-2009, Ms. Kindling served on the Defense Research Institute’s Judicial Task Force.
Ms. Kindling has given numerous presentations on health care topics including HIPAA, EMTALA, Advanced Directives, and medical-legal ethics.
