Attorney Dionne Scherff began her legal career as a prosecutor, specializing in the prosecution of sex abuse and child abuse cases. In 2003, she entered private practice aiming to leverage her experience as a prosecutor to better serve clients needing experienced and dedicated defense counsel with a history of success in the courtroom.
Over the last year, Scherff tried six consecutive cases and secured not guilty verdicts in all of them. All cases were litigated in district courts throughout Kansas, including Clay, Johnson, Wyandotte and Lyon counties. The charges in those cases included aggravated arson, rape, aggravated indecent liberties, aggravated indecent solicitation, disorderly conduct and obstruction of an investigation.
Ms. Scherff is one of only a few lawyers qualified by the American Bar Association to handle death penalty cases, and she is one of only two lawyers in Kansas’ history of death penalty cases to get a capital case dismissed.
Ms. Scherff regularly represents clients charged with a range of criminal charges, including: first degree murder, Jessica’s law offenses, bank robbery, drug distribution, mortgage fraud, aggravated kidnapping, rape, aggravated indecent liberties, aggravated battery, stalking, electronic solicitation, DUI and all juvenile offenses.
“Being a trial attorney is challenging but rewarding,” said Ms. Scherff. She continued, “I really enjoyed the times I tried cases with my talented colleagues—including Lindsey Erickson and Chris Joseph. They bring knowledge, experience and an energy to trial that always benefits the client!”
While Ms. Scherff’s continued courtroom victories are reward enough for her dedication to her work, she noted that client feedback like this recent review is truly the highest praise: “Dionne Scherff is absolutely amazing! She was extremely knowledgeable and very patient with our legal issues.” Ms. Scherff commented, “I am so fortunate to have the ability to help my clients in their time of need. When my clients entrust me with protecting their rights, it motivates me to continue achieving great results on their behalf.”
